El Chapulín Restaurant Oax

Tucked away from the what can be a very busy city on the weekends is this little oasis. After climbing the stairs to this beautiful terrace your taste buds will be thankful that you came here. I was greeted warmly by the staff and as I gazed around from the rooftop I hope that I would be as delighted with the food as I was with the setting. My delight was surpassed. The service I received was better than most restaurants I have visited. Friendly, helpful and happy to answer any questions. Being in Oaxaca I had to try Chipulines which turn out to be the best snack to have with a cold beer. I also ordered the quesadillas with pumpkin blossom, the taco with mushrooms and of course, mole. This time packed full of oaxacan cheese. I am so very happy that I visited this wonderful spot and I’ll definitely come back before I leave Oaxaca. Do yourself a huge favor and come here for five star food and service.

A very wonderful and unique spot, tucked away on top of a building. Delicious food and really sweet staff:) the Caldo de Piedra is a very special dish with a demonstration! Really recommend this place:)

Yes, the food is outstanding! The service is friendly. The guacamole is made to order, by hand, not in a blender and not spicy. They have flavorful salsas to accompany and spice it up if you like. The shrimp "aguachile" is authentic, with plenty of fresh shrimp. We also had an empanada of mole amarillo, which was excellent. The menu is fairly diverse, and this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Their chapulines are quite good, too. We're coming back again to try the "Caldo de Piedra" and will update the review.

We stumbled across here looking for some casual food and a drink, I would definitely recommend anyone visiting oaxaca coming to this place. The fish tacos were excellent and the service was great. They do a lot of local food as well that looked great. Lovely rooftop terrace and its view of the mountains.

Visited twice.the Camaron tacos and the chicken salad is amazing,loved the mole too. The girl welcoming you and managing the restaurant is great

Great restaurant that served a lot of vegetarian/vegan options. We got the empanada, tacos, and enchilada de moles negro. The mole was the highlight for sure, I recommend it. We were a little unsure of the location but it’s down a little passage and up the stairs you can see from the road.

This place is a real gem! An amazing little terrace, friendly staff, and WHAT A MENU! We tried their specialty: el caldo de piedra—a flavorful broth with shrimp and fresh fish. The dish is cooked by boiling it with hot rocks sourced from a specific river. It was absolutely delicious! Their fresh guacamole (with chapulines ) and aguachile verde were also insanely good. You definitely don’t want to miss this place if you’re looking for an authentic Oaxacan experience!

Intimate restaurant with a friendly staff and delicious food. This was my favorite Mole in Oaxaca. The stone soup was also delicious. They have a full bar with a large drink menu. Located on the rooftop terrace. Go thru the front entrance and up the metal staircase to the rooftop. Take a left turn and up a few more stairs and you are there!
